Genevans can get peak power alerts, in effort to reduce electricity use during hot weather
With warmer weather in the forecast, Geneva residents can help the city’s electric operations — and lower their utility bills — by reducing power consumption for a few hours in the afternoon.
The city offers a voluntary electric load reduction program that notifies customers via X and the city’s website when to reduce electricity usage. The benefits include helping control future electric costs.
To receive the alerts, follow the city on X or subscribe by visiting the “Notify Me” at geneva.il.us.
Ways to reduce energy use include raising the air conditioning temperature a few degrees, waiting to run major until evening and turning off lights in empty rooms. The city typically issues about 20 such alerts each summer.
