Mundelein board votes to buy land for downtown parking

The Mundelein village board on Monday voted to purchase vacant land in the downtown area.

The land at 437 N. Chicago Ave. will be converted into a paved parking lot for the businesses on nearby Park Street, Village Administrator Eric Guenther said before the 4-2 vote.

The roughly 1.5-acre site will cost Mundelein $740,000.

Trustees Kara Lambert and Erich Schwenk opposed the plan. Lambert said officials have done an excellent job getting rid of unused property, and she expressed disappointment that the board is acquiring some.
