PhilanthroParty: Where DuPage teens turn passion into action

The DuPage County Prevention Leadership Team and Reality Illinois Teen Advisory Board will be hosting the eighth annual Teen PhilanthroParty on Tuesday, June 17. It will be 1 to 3 p.m. at the Institutional Resource Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.

This PhilanthroParty is a party with a purpose and an opportunity for high school-aged teens in DuPage County to connect and make positive changes in their community.

This year’s PhilanthroParty will feature guest speaker Brent Swolsky, or “Big Swol” as he his known by the many teens he has spoken to over the years.

Swolsky has been an educator for 28 years, as both a special-education teacher and a high school counselor. Working directly with young people every day, he understands firsthand the power of interpersonal communication. Utilizing best practices in education, Swolsky is dedicated to empowering youth to make healthy and positive choices in their lives.

Teens who attend this year’s PhilanthroParty should be prepared to laugh, move, and be reminded of the simple points of focus in life that can make all our lives more meaningful, fulfilled, and fun.

The annual Teen PhilanthroParty kicks off the Reality Teen Advisory Board’s summer meeting series. Teens will reflect on their personal drive, explore the impact of their words, and learn the difference between empathy and sympathy. They will also practice sharing stories, actively listening to others with empathy, and engaging in team-building activities to strengthen connection and collaboration.

Teens who attend are asked to bring a donation such as journals with prompts, books on mental wellness, colored pencils, stress balls, etc. that will be donated to Stef’s Corner.

Stef’s Corner was created to support teen mental health by providing inspiration, resources, and a sense of community. Teens can register for the Teen PhilanthroParty via www.dupageplt.org/223/Teen-Philanthroparty.
