Longtime college friends open Play It Again Sports in Mundelein

Play It Again Sports, a family sporting goods resale concept, opened its doors last Thursday in Mundelein.

The store, located at 1539 S Lake St., provides athletes of every age a place to sell their quality used sports and fitness equipment including: football equipment, baseball gloves and bats, hockey gear, golf clubs, soccer gear, lacrosse equipment, treadmills, bikes, and weights.

Play It Again Sports is part of Winmark — The Resale Company, a national retail resale franchise that focuses on sustainability, small business formation and providing Resale for Everyone.

The Mundelein store is owned by longtime friends Herb Seitz and Eric Maddux, who met during their first graduate school class at DePaul University in Chicago.

Seitz, a former Division I Track & Field athlete at Marquette University, and Maddux have always had a passion for sports, and both have spent time coaching youth sports teams in the Chicago area, according to a news release.

The duo often considered going into business together. After discovering Play It Again Sports and resonating with Winmark’s resale model, Seitz and Maddux had found the right fit for their first business, the release said.

“Eric and I have been talking about owning a business together for years, so to finally see it come to life with Play It Again Sports is incredibly exciting,” Seitz said. “We’re thrilled to open our doors and can’t wait to meet our new customers and become part of the Mundelein community.”
