Sox set to call up hard-throwing reliever Taylor from Double-A

The White Sox plan to call up right-hander Grant Taylor from Double-A Birmingham, according to multiple reports. He's expected to join the team Tuesday in Houston.

Taylor is the Sox's No. 6 ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline and will be interesting to watch, with a fastball that’s regularly reached 100 miles per hour.

He's posted a 1.01 ERA in the minors this season, with 37 strikeouts in just under 27 innings. He began the year in Birmingham's rotation, then after six starts, shifted to a bullpen role.

As a reliever, he has not allowed a run in 9 1/3 innings, with just 3 hits, 1 walk and 18 strikeouts. His performance led to speculation he might be ready for success in a short-inning role in the majors.

Taylor, 23, was a second-round pick out of LSU in 2023. The Alabama native pitched in 17 games as a college freshman in '22, then missed his sophomore season due to elbow surgery.
