Community concert at Batavia Library supports Interfaith Food Pantry & Clothes Closet June 22

The Batavia Public Library has partnered with Music & Potlucks, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to present a special concert to support The Interfaith Food Pantry and Clothes Closet.

It will feature folk singer songwriter Mark Dvorak performing on guitar, 5-string banjo and 12-string guitar. It will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at the library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

“We’ve presented over 200 events,” said Music & Potlucks co-director Stephanie Schrodt of River Forest. “Our mission is to present programs that gather our community together and at the same time provide some assistance to our neighbors in need. We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Batavia community.”

The Interfaith Pantry and Closet, at 431 N. Raddant Road, has served families in Batavia Township since 1981.

Singer/songwriter Mark Dvorak has won awards for journalism and children’s music, and received the 2013 FARM Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International. In 2008, he was honored with the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2012 WFMT 98.7 FM Midnight Special host Rich Warren named him “Chicago’s official troubadour.”

“At this stage of the game,” said the singer, “I feel like I’m doing my best work.”

Those attending should bring one or more grocery bags of nonperishable food items, toiletries and in-season clothing items.
