Win a season subscription to the Elgin Symphony Orchestra for you and a friend
If you haven’t attended an Elgin Symphony Orchestra concert recently, the award-winning orchestra is giving you an opportunity to win a pair of subscriptions to its 76th season. Entry details can be found at ElginSymphony.org/giveaway.
“We know that there are people who have never been to an ESO concert — or haven’t been in years — and we think they’re missing out on a special experience in our community,” said Marc Thayer, chief executive officer of the ESO. “So, this month we’re giving away pairs of subscriptions so they and a friend can experience the thrill of a live orchestra concert.”
“We’re very fortunate to have many of the best musicians in the Chicago area on the ESO roster. And, we are conveniently located here in Elgin,” Thayer said. “There’s no dealing with traffic or train schedules. There’s free parking and lots of local places to grab a bite to eat or a drink before or after a concert.”
Every week in June the ESO will randomly select two winners to each receive a pair of season subscriptions to its six-concert series that begins the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11-12, with a performance that includes pianist Orion Weiss on Gershwin’s Concerto in F, along with Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2 “Romantic” and Carlos Simon’s “Motherboxx Connection.”
Chad Goodman, now in his third season as music director for the ESO, conducts all the performances.
Those selected will receive tickets to the Saturday evening performances, all of which are held at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin.
Additional programs in the ESO’s 76th season include:
• Nov. 8-9: Greg Flint, principal horn with the ESO, will be featured on Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4. Additional pieces in this concert include Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 “Italian,” Clara Schumann’s “Three Romances,” and Mozart’s Symphony No. 13.
• Feb. 7-8: Violinist Geneva Lewis performs Barber’s Violin Concerto with the ESO in a program that includes Brahms Symphony No. 3 and Dvořák’s “Othello.”
• March 7-8: The Elgin Master Chorale joins the ESO for a performance of Fauré Requiem, along with selections from Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” and Valerie Coleman’s “Seven O’Clock Shout.”
• On April 11-12: Cellist Oliver Herbert joins the ESO for a performance of Robert Schumann’s Cello Concerto. The concert also features Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Quinn Mason’s “A Joyous Trilogy.”
• On May 2-3, the ESO will perform Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” at its 76th season finale concert in a program that includes Richard Strauss’ “Death and Transfiguration” and Angélica Negrón’s Morivivi.
