Three Cougars pitchers combine on no-hitter
In an epic conclusion to the series, the Kane County Cougars didn’t allow a single hit, and exploded for a 9-0 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs on Sunday in Geneva.
Vin Timpanelli (2-2), in a spot start for the Cougars (9-12), never wavered in seven hitless innings. Timpanelli allowed just two walks while striking out a season-high seven while setting the stage for no-hitter.
Reliever Tommy Sommer threw a hitless eighth. Finally, in the top of the ninth, Jake Gozzo capped the combined no-hitter, and sealed the series for the Cougars.
It’s the eleventh no-hitter in franchise history, and the first since joining the American Association. It’s the first no-hitter since 2019 for Kane County, and the first at home since 2014.
Josh Allen’s 2-run double gave the Cougars a 2-0 in the first. Thomas Jones singled in Allen. Claudio Finol drove in Jones, giving the Cougars a 4-0 lead at the end of the first.
Allen added a 3-run homer In the second inning to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead.
