Hanover Township funds local mental health services
The Hanover Township Mental Health Board approved $69,500 in funding at their May 27 meeting at the town hall.
The board awarded $20,000 in capital funding to the Ecker Center to assist in office renovations that will allow for more programs and therapy space. Located in Elgin, the Ecker Center for Behavioral Health provides behavioral health care to 1,000 township residents annually through prevention, education, and interventions.
Special Olympics of Illinois received $10,000 in Challenge Funding to support programming for Township athletes with intellectual or developmental disabilities. This is the first time the organization has received funding from the mental health board.
The board awarded $5,000 in emergency funding to PADS of Elgin for operational expenses. Since 2020, over $134,000 in emergency funding has been awarded to local agencies as a result of state or federal funding cuts, sudden capital issues, and other crisis situations.
Hanover Township received $34,500 in mental health housing funding to fund the supportive housing services coordinator position at Hanover Landing.
Opened in September of 2023 through the efforts of Hanover Township, UPholdings, and others, the Elgin facility features 39 one-bedroom units for residents with disabilities to live independently.
The township’s coordinator works with tenants in matching them with assistance programs and services at and outside the facility.
Prior to the meeting, Tarah McShane and Jordan Wildermuth were sworn in by Clerk Katy Dolan Baumer for 4-year terms to the township mental health board.
A resident of Streamwood, McShane is experienced in mental health advocacy, development, and program leadership. Wildermuth previously chaired the township’s Committee on Youth and co-chaired its Community Education Support Task Force.
A resident of Elgin, Wildermuth brings a background of health policy analysis to the board.
Hanover Township serves over 100,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
