Elgin man faces child pornography charges
An Elgin man is free on pretrial release on charges he possessed and disseminated child sexual abuse materials.
Kane County Judge Eun Yoon denied prosecutors’ petition Wednesday to detain Simone Agresti, 41, of the 3000 block of Settlers Parkway.
Agresti is charged with eight counts of dissemination of child pornography, a Class X felony, and six counts of possession of child pornography, a Class 2 felony.
The charges say that between March 1 and May 27, he had and distributed multiple videos. It accuses him of using the WhatsApp? messaging app and via the eDonkey decentralized peer-to-peer file-sharing network.
The videos ranged in length from less than a minute to one that was more than 38 minutes, according to the charges.
The case was investigated by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit, with help from Elgin police. Ottawa police were also involved, according to one of the charges.
Agresti’s next court appearance is June 13.
