Man detained on charges of being a felon with a gun
A man is being detained pretrial in DuPage County on charges that, as a felon, he illegally possessed guns.
Marcus Carroll, 30, of the 0-100 block of 154th Place, Calumet City, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a repeat felony offender and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
According to a petition for pretrial detention, Naperville police were conducting surveillance in Aurora around 2:03 a.m. May 24. They reported seeing a parked vehicle in which there was a handgun — a Glock 43 9 mm, with a 50-round drum magazine — on the floorboard behind the front passenger seat.
The vehicle drove off. Police made a traffic stop and said Carroll was driving; they found the gun now under the driver’s seat.
Police also say they found a backpack in the back seat, behind the driver’s seat, containing a Glock 23 .40-caliber handgun with a switch making it fully automatic, a Springfield Hellcat 9 mm in the mesh pocket of the backpack and a Glock 19 9 mm in another pouch of the backpack.
All the guns were loaded, with bullets in the chambers.
According to the petition, Carroll was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2022 on an armed robbery charge and seven years in prison in 2016 for vehicular hijacking.
Carroll’s next court date is June 23.
