The true goals of ‘public servants’

Let’s be clear: politicians are not “public servants.” They may have initially felt an urge to serve a greater cause, but their real goals are twofold: power and money. Today’s DH editorial described Joe Biden as having given “a lifetime of public service.” That’s ridiculous. Joe Biden, like virtually all other politicians, loves the limelight, the recognition, the adulation, the power over others. And that position translates into wealth, as we all realize Blue Collar Joe, like most of his peers, is fabulously wealthy.

Here’s an idea: if politicians were truly public servants, like volunteers, they shouldn’t accept any payments. They would endorse term limits and they would be prohibited from becoming a lobbyist when their terms are done. Then it would be interesting to see how many would truly be “public servants.”
