Open Door Health Center of Illinois seeks volunteers for Pride, Juneteenth festivities

Open Door Health Center of Illinois is participating in this year’s Pride and Juneteenth celebrations — and they are looking for volunteers.

June is a time to come together in celebration and reflection. Pride honors the strength, love, and progress of the LGBTQ+ community, while Juneteenth marks a pivotal moment in history — the final emancipation of enslaved Black Americans in 1865.

Open Door, a regional, patient-centered health care organization serving individuals at risk for sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, and supporting the LGBTQ+ community, will be taking part in multiple community events throughout the month.

And they are inviting friendly, community-minded individuals to help bring energy and joy to these events. Whether you have volunteered before or it’s your first time, everyone is welcome.

Volunteer opportunities Include:

• Helping decorate vehicles and walking in the Pride Parades in Elgin and Aurora.

• Handing out candy and spreading cheer during the parades

• Representing Open Door at Pride and Juneteenth festivals by sharing information and resources

• Assisting the outreach team with setup, engagement, and support

No experience is necessary — just bring your enthusiasm and a smile! Families, friend groups, and individuals of all backgrounds are encouraged to get involved. Plus, community service hours can be verified for students or anyone who needs them.

“Our volunteers are the heartbeat of these celebrations,” said Perry Maier, executive director of Open Door Health Center of Illinois. “Your time, energy, and presence help us connect with the community and share our mission of inclusivity, health, and support for all.”
