Annual SALUTE Honor and Remember Walk/Run returns to Lake Arlington with special guest

Memorial Day weekend brings the return of the annual SALUTE Inc. Honor and Remember Walk/Run fundraiser.

For the second consecutive year, the event will take place at Lake Arlington taking advantage of the path that loops around the lake for an untimed run or walk. The event takes place on Saturday, May 24, with a start time of 8 a.m.

A special guest, Tracy Drost, Mrs. Illinois America 2025, will be on hand to help get the event started. Drost and her family are longtime Arlington Heights residents and valued supporters of the SALUTE mission. Don't let the cooler temperatures keep you home. Come meet Tracy, view all of the Honor and Remember signs along the route, and start your day with a purpose.

For many years SALUTE has used the Memorial Day weekend to highlight their mission of meeting the financial, physical and emotional needs of injured military service members, veterans, and their families. Since its inception SALUTE Inc. has raised over $9 million to assist over 26,000 military families with housing costs, utility bills, car expenses and food.

Registration is open at www.saluteinc.org/events/honor-and-remember-walk-run/ with day-of registration also taking place on May 24 beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Runners and walkers will complete 2 (or more) loops around the lake. Along the way, they will see a series of Honor or Remember signs that have been purchased for display to commemorate veterans in their lives. The signs are designed to pay respect to family members who have served in the military and have since passed away, or those who currently serve.

Lake Arlington is located at 2201 North Windsor Drive in Arlington Heights.

The Honor and Remember Walk/Run is open to participants of all ages, including kids. SALUTE encourages family and workplace team participation in the event.

Packet pick-up will take place at Runners High 'n Tri, 121 W. Campbell St., on Friday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Packets can also be picked up on race day at Lake Arlington beginning at 6:30 a.m.
