Batavia adds events to Flag Day celebration

The Batavia Flag Day celebration on June 14 includes two new events.

At 1 p.m., author Tom Emery will present research on the Flag Day founder, Batavia dentist Dr. Bernard Cigrand, at the Schielke Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave.

From 2 to 4 p.m., there will be a ceremony at the Flag Day monument in front of the government center, including a performance by the Batavia Community Band, a visit from Batavia police comfort dog River, and the sealing of time capsules.

Then Batavia Overseas Post 1197, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will host “Red, White and Brews” from 4 to 6 p.m. at 645 S. River St. (Route 25).
