American Wind Band puts on free ‘Pops’ concert June 1
The American Wind Band presents a free “Pops Concert on the Lawn” on Sunday, June 1.
It will begin at 3 p.m. on the west side of the American Legion Post 80, 4000 Saratoga Ave. in Downers Grove. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, umbrella for shade, sunscreen and bug spray. Kindly leave pets at home.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Legion hall. The directors have chosen a variety of music that includes “Four Dances” from “West Side Story,” “The Genius of Ray Charles,” Robert Jager’s Esprit de Corps,” “Big Band Spectacular” and Henry Fillmore’s “Rolling Thunder March.”
American Wind Band, based in Downers Grove, promotes the understanding and appreciation of concert band literature through performance for the enjoyment of all in attendance. Many thanks to the American Legion Post 80 for hosting the concert.

The band will resume rehearsals on the Tuesday following Labor Day at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, 1032 Maple Ave. in Downers Grove. New members are always welcome and auditions are not required.
