Deck fire causes $50,000 damage at St. Charles apartment building
A Friday evening fire on an exterior deck of a third-floor apartment in St. Charles resulted in $50,000 damage.
According to the St. Charles fire department, a resident who does not live in the apartment activated the building fire alarm about 5:55 p.m. after seeing a fire on a third-floor deck.
Firefighters arrived at the 1300 block of Brook Street three minutes later and the fire was quickly extinguished. Three neighboring departments also responded. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. The apartment is habitable but the decks are not usable, firefighters said.
