ILEAP invites public comment regarding the Bannockburn Police Department

An assessor from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program will be at the Bannockburn Police Department on May 18 and 19 to determine if the Bannockburn Police Department should receive the organization’s Tier Level 1 reaccreditation. The Bannockburn Police Department will be judged on the basis of 69 separate ILEAP standards regarding administration, operations, personnel, and training.

The Bannockburn Police Department has been revising its policies and procedures to meet the standards set by ILEAP. To complete the accreditation process, the policies and procedures must not only reflect the standards established by ILEAP, all files developed must demonstrate and provide validation the department is following all mandated ILEAP policies and procedures. Accreditation will demonstrate the Bannockburn Police Department has achieved a level of professionalism among its law enforcement peers and validate the methods of service department members provide to the community in which they serve. In addition to improving their relationship with the Bannockburn community, accreditation improves accountability while limiting liability and risk exposure.

One ILEAP Assessor, Lt. Joel Givens, (U.S. Air Force/Rockford Police Department, Ret.), will conduct an on-site assessment of the Bannockburn Police Department. Agency personnel, elected officials, and members of the community are invited to offer comments during a public information call in session from 2-3 p.m. on May 19. Public comments are limited to five minutes and must address the Bannockburn Police Department’s ability to meet the ILEAP accreditation standards. You can dial in, at (847) 943-9050

“I am proud to have our Department be considered for reaccreditation again through ILEAP,” Police Chief William Annen said. “Keeping current with their best practices strengthens our ability to service our community in the best way possible.” Chief Annen can be reached at (847) 945-6080, ext. 440, for additional information.
