Prospect Heights to resume debate over backyard chicken rules May 27

Prospect Heights will resume its consideration of regulations on the keeping of backyard chickens, talks that occupied most of last year before stopping one step short of approval in December.

A discussion has been scheduled for the city council meeting Tuesday, May 27, the day after Memorial Day.

City Administrator Joe Wade said there will be no vote that evening, just a discussion of an ordinance that could be ready for the council’s consideration as early as June.

Mayor Patrick Ludvigsen said his preference would be to pick up from where the council left off in December with a first reading of the proposed ordinance on June 9 followed by final approval on June 23.

Prospect Heights is unique among the Northwest suburbs for having no regulations on the keeping of chickens.
