Tollway gives tips to small, diverse businesses on securing state contracts today in Elgin
Small businesses unsure about navigating the process of securing a state contract can get advice and network at an Illinois tollway event Tuesday in Elgin.
The workshop runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Edward Schock Centre, 100 Symphony Way, in Elgin. On-site registration starts at 9 a.m. or companies can register on the tollway’s website at agency.illinoistollway.com/contractingwithgovernment.
Participants will be able to meet one-on-one with vendors and learn about annual state agency buying plans. Experts will offer workshops on how the procurement, certification and bid processes work for a variety of businesses including information technology.
Multiple agencies will participate, officials said. Features include a Learning Lab on upcoming state contract opportunities, and a Quick Connect Workshop where entrepreneurs can connect with firms that already work with the state and get guidance.
The tollway is “dedicated to expanding our pool of small, diverse and veteran-owned contractors,” tollway Executive Director Cassaundra Rouse said in a statement.
“Business owners will be able to speak directly with experts from the tollway and other agencies about the actions they can take and the programs available that will enable them to compete more effectively for state contracts.
State agencies and companies participating include: the Illinois Commission on Equity and Inclusion, the Illinois Chief Procurement Office for General Services, Illinois Secretary of State, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Elgin Chamber of Commerce, and Apex Accelerator.
