Girls soccer: Neuqua Valley, Naperville Central share DVC championship
The DuPage Valley girls soccer title came down to the final Tuesday of the league season with Naperville Central, Naperville North and Neuqua Valley all entering the evening with identical 3-1-0 records.
North put themselves in the thick of the race after its 3-2 overtime victory on Monday night against Metea Valley, to end the Mustangs’ chances.
In that match, the Huskies came back from being down two goals before stunning the Mustangs with Claire DeCook firing in the game-winner for her ninth goal of the season.
Teammates Kennedy Bertsch and Lucy Fitzgerald would net the other two goals for their club.
However, Tuesday night, Neuqua Valley (13-3-0, 4-1-0) used the ninth goal of the season from Selma Larbi goal to defeat the Huskies, at home, 1-0.
The Wildcats will now share the DVC crown with No. 1 Naperville Central after the Redhawks (18-1-1, 4-1-0) rolled past Waubonsie Valley, 7-1 in their regular season finale at home.
The DVC co-champions, along with Metea Valley (11-5-0) and Naperville North (11-5-3) are all part of the top heavy, and high profile, Naperville North sectional with Metea Valley anointed the No. 1 seed over its league rivals.
Something will have to give should all four advance from their respective regional venues and come together in sectional semifinals beginning on May 27.
Naperville Central was the sectional champion a year ago, before falling 2-1 to St. Charles North in its supersectional final.
