South suburban woman charged with giving THC-infused candy to kids in Wheeling

Wheeling police have arrested a south suburban woman on charges she gave cannabis-laced candy to children at a local park over the weekend.

Dagmara J. Rouse, 48, of Robbins faces four counts each of delivery of cannabis to a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and endangering the health or safety of a child, police said Tuesday.

Rouse was arrested on the misdemeanor charges Monday morning and later released pending a scheduled court appearance June 27, at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

Authorities allege Rouse gave out THC-infused chocolates to at least four children — ages 9, 9, 6 and 2 — at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Run/Four Acres Park in Wheeling.

Police responded following a report of the children becoming lethargic after eating the candy. They were taken to a hospital where staff confirmed at least one child tested positive for THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, according to police.

During a search of the park, officers found a product labeled “Mojo THC Milk Chocolate,” police said.

Rouse’s arrest Monday was made possible thanks in part to information citizens provided after the incident was reported in the news, officials said.

Police said their investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information should contact the Wheeling Police Department.
