Vernon Township awards $66K in Social Service Grants to 18 nonprofits

Vernon Township has announced the distribution of $66,000 in Social Service Agency Grants to 18 nonprofit organizations that serve its residents through transportation, health care, housing, legal aid and child advocacy.

These grants reflect the township’s ongoing commitment to strengthen vital community services that contribute to the well-being and quality of life for residents. This year’s grant recipients include 16 returning agencies: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago, CASA Lake County, ElderCARE Lake County, Erie Family Health Foundation Inc., Faith in Action, GiveNKind, Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association, KAN-WIN, Lake County Crisis Center (A Safe Place), Mothers Trust Foundation, North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic, PADS Lake County, Shelter Inc. and Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center.

Two new organizations were also awarded funding this year: Cancer Wellness Center and Key to 73 Foundation.

“These agencies provide critical services to our residents, and we’re proud to help support their work through this yearly grant program,” Vernon Township Supervisor Tim Kobler said. “Whether it’s access to legal assistance, advocacy for children, or support for seniors, these nonprofits help ensure our community is safer, healthier and more connected.”

The grant program operates separately from the Vernon Township Community Mental Health Board and is focused specifically on services outside of the mental health umbrella. Grants are awarded based on criteria such as service alignment with township functions, accessibility to residents, and a demonstrated track record of providing effective and measurable support.
