Two women rescued from Fox River in Geneva Sunday after falling out of their kayaks

Two women were rescued Sunday night in Geneva after they fell out of their kayaks into the Fox River, authorities said.

According to a press release, the Geneva Fire Department responded to a call for a river rescue at about 10:45 p.m., and while en route, Geneva firefighters and police officers were notified by dispatch that a bystander had heard screaming coming from the Fox River near the 800 block of North Bennett Street (Route 25).

Two police officers entered the river and were able to help one of the women to shore.

A fire department boat deployed to the river successfully rescued the second woman along with an assisting police officer.

One woman was transported to a hospital, while the second refused medical treatment. No information was made available on their conditions.
