Open letter to speaker
Dear Mr. Johnson: Although this letter will not get to your desk, I hope that it is read by someone who can share my concerns with you.
I’m worried that our federal government has lost its balance of power between the three branches. The checks and balances are less apparent, especially in light of the abundance of executive decisions and orders being made and implemented without any apparent review or challenges from the legislative branch.
Is the House of Representatives really doing their job by enforcing the rule of law and contesting some decisions by the president until the laws can be reviewed and/or changed by a vote of the House members? Are our representatives really listening to all their constituents?
I consider myself having a spirit of patriotism, but not one of blind nationalism that tends toward arrogance, aggression and advancing one man’s interest at the expense of others.
We can do better, Mr. Speaker.
