Aurora church joins in 24 hours of prayer

Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora was among suburban faith organizations celebrating “Prayer on the 100th” Wednesday and Thursday, April 30-May 1.

“The 24-hour event was designed to bring together communities around a shared yearning for unity, healing and a better world,” said Rev. Tammy Scott, Wesley lead pastor.

Activities began at 7 p.m. April 30 -- 100 days since the U.S. presidential inauguration -- and ran through 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, National Day of Prayer.

In addition to Wesley, partnering organizations were United Methodist Church of Libertyville, First Presbyterian Church, Libertyville; Grace UMC, Lake Bluff; First UMC, Waukegan; North Suburban Mennonite Church, Libertyville; and UMC Northern Illinois Conference, Chicago.

In addition to prayers open to the public in the Wesley sanctuary, Rev. Scott offered drive-thru prayers in the church parking lot from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on National Day of Prayer Thursday, May 1.

To close the observance, Rev. Scott led a prayer service Thursday evening in the peace garden at the church.
