Don’t increase hunger by gutting food stamps
Most people may not know it, but Trump and his fellow extremists plan to re-introduce their plan to cut billions of dollars from food stamps (SNAP). This is obscene. This will take food away from the hungry, including children and senior citizens.
It must be stopped.
In 2023, 13.8 million children lived in households that experienced food insecurity, up 3.2% from 2022, according to the Food Research and Action Center.
Taking billions out of food assistance will worsen these already intolerable numbers. Why? Because these right-wing fanatics believe that many of the recipients are scamming the system. Even if some are, the sledgehammer approach they’re choosing is immoral and stupid.
Investigate what the real situation is. Improve the vetting process to identify the real scammers. Don’t hurt or even kill those who deserve help as residents of this country, a country that used to claim to be generous and compassionate.
Maybe they get some sort of kick out of hurting people and looking tough.
They should visit soup kitchens such as the one where I volunteered, and note the number of people for whom the meal we served was the only meal they had that day.
We must stop this cruelty and outrage to humanity.
