Voices Unlimited Chorus performing Streisand, Diamond and more at spring concert

On Sunday, May 18, the Voices Unlimited concert chorus, under the music direction of founder David Barth, will present their spring concert, “Thank You For the Music” at Journey of Hope Methodist Church in Elgin.

The mixed-voice chorus will be presenting a wide selection of both sacred and secular choral music. Included in the repertoire are “Glory, Honor and Praises,” Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s “The Prayer,” Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” Barbra Streisand’s “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from “Funny Girl,” and “I Dreamed a Dream,” the most memorable and powerful song from the Broadway musical “Les Misérables.”

These and additional selections will bring an almost unmatched emotion to the concert, which has been the forte of the chorus since their inception in 2023.

Further, the chorus is adding additional accompaniment with a second keyboard that will enhance the music with strings and brass. And, as with previous concerts, they will be introducing a solo instrumentalist.

This concert will feature flutist Laurie Heffron who along with accompanying the chorus on the song “Love Changes Everything,” will also be performing a flute/piano duet with accompanist Dave Borger to the song, “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things” from Rogers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.”

The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at the church, 37W040 Highland Ave., the northwest corner of Randall and Highland. The doors open at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 or $5 for children under the age of 12. They are readily available by emailing davidabarth@comcast.net, calling (630) 707-1221 or mailing your request to Voices Unlimited, 3871 Crooked Creek Drive, Elgin, IL 60124.
