Girls track and field: Barrington dominates Conant invite
For the 14 other girls track and field teams that joined Conant at the Borczak-Cougar Twilight Invitational Friday night they would each have to deal with evening temperatures falling into the high 40s in addition to showers coating the Feutz Field track throughout the meet.
Each team was also seeking to get their squads headed into the right direction as both league championship and sectional meets will be held over the next two weeks on the road to the state finals in Charleston scheduled for three weeks from Friday at Eastern Illinois University.
When it was all said and done it would be Barrington leading the way as it took the team title with 319 points that allowed them to outpace runner-up Minooka (284 points).
Joliet West (186 points), Glenbrook North (182 points) and Fremd (134 points) rounded out the top five.
"The kids ran well, but I expect them to give that kind of effort every time they run on the track," Barrington Coach Debbie Revolta said.
"We have to be prepared for this because this can happen in the (MSL) and sectional (meets). We try to talk to them that it can happen and they have to be able to run in anything. They just got to keep doing what they're doing."
What allowed the Fillies to have a successful night was their ability to dominate the running events as it won 13 of their 14 total event triumphs.
It began with wins in both the 4x200 (1:45.60) and the 4x800 (9:43.99) relays, then saw wins in 2 of the 3 classes in the 100 meter hurdles with wins by seniors Aleksandra Bordeianu (18.58 seconds, Class C) and Katherine Katula (17.82 seconds, Class B).
Barrington next pulled off a three class sweep in the 800 meters as freshman Rikki Chatterjee (2:25.77, Class C), junior Madison Miles (2:18.92, Class B), and senior Scout Storms (2:16.91, Class A) emerged victorious.
Bordeianu captured her second race in the 300 hurdles (52.60, Class C) followed by its second three class sweep in the 1,600 as sophomore Liva Ketkar (5:26.08, Class C), freshmen Victoria Tarara (5:15.86, Class B), and sophomore Mia Sirois (4:58.33, Class A) triumphed.
Another 2 race triumph for the Filles followed with junior Briony Robinson (26.67 seconds, Class B) and senior Kaley Swanson (26.08 seconds, Class A) in the 200 meters.
Swanson then topped off the night with her second win in the long jump (17-11.50, Class A).
Bordeianu, who earlier in the day chose to attend the University of Missouri this fall to continue her academic studies, wasn't too keen on Friday's weather heading into the meet.
"I'll be honest, I had a very negative attitude today. It's like I don't know about this guys," Bordeiany said.
"I came off a (personal record) in the 400 meters last week. I'm like, let's get a season best in the 300 meter hurdles. I felt really good about both races (that I ran) after practice yesterday. Plus, our team ran well."
