Carpentersville man accused of making video of sexual assault of child

A Carpentersville man has been charged with making child sexual abuse materials by assaulting a child while she was asleep.

Federico Vega Jr., 23, of the 1800 block of Papoose Road, is charged with three counts of manufacturing child pornography, one count of criminal sexual assault, eight counts of possessing child pornography, and three counts of misdemeanor criminal sexual abuse, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The charges were filed on April 24, and he was arrested on April 29 in North Carolina. Vega is being held in the Craven County, North Carolina jail while he awaits extradition. Vega is a private first class in the Marine Corps and stationed in North Carolina.

The charges accuse Vega of sexually assaulting the victim on May 28, 2017. She was younger than 13 at the time.

The case was investigated by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit with assistance from the Carpentersville Police Department and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
