Elmhurst church to host Green Garden Fair
Attention gardeners, the First Congregational Church in Elmhurst is holding their 11th annual Green Garden Fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 10. The church is located at 235 S. Kenilworth Ave., the southeast corner of Church and Kenilworth.
If you pre-ordered from their organic seedlings sale you will be able to pick up your purchases at the garden fair. And if you didn’t pre-order, or wished you’d ordered more, the church will have plenty of additional plants for sale at the garden fair.
Plants make a great gift for Mom so stop by and pick some up for her. Vegetable and herb seedlings, which are locally grown and certified organic, will be available. They are provided by Baas Greenhouses in Mokena, Illinois.
Annual flower seedlings also will be available for purchase. While not grown organically, the flowers are grown by We Grow Dreams Greenhouse and Garden Center, which provides job training and employment for the developmentally disabled. Your purchase will support their mission. To help your seedlings grow into strong healthy plants, organic compost and potting mix will be available for sale too.
In addition, numerous exhibitors will be on hand. Bring your garden tools, scissors and knives and Custom Edge Sharpening will sharpen them for you. Drop them at the sharpener’s booth and enjoy the fair. They will be ready for you when you are done.

Prairie Wind Native Plants, a local native plant nursery, will be bringing a selection of seedlings suitable for home gardeners. Purchase local raw honey from City Bee Savers or a beautiful stepping stone for your garden from Jan. Fun products made by repurposing items that might otherwise go in landfills will also be for sale. And Sustain DuPage will be sharing nasturtium seeds with those interested in learning about their mission.
You will also learn how to live more sustainably from a number of eco organizations. Come visit the University of Illinois Master Gardeners and the Elmhurst Garden Club to get your gardening questions answered. Speak to members of the Citizen’s Climate Lobby, Climate Reality Project, DuPage Monarch Project, the Sierra Club and many more. New this year will be the Illinois Bat Conservation Program.
That’s just a few of the things that will be happening at the Fair. You’ll have a fun, educational morning and be able to look forward to growing healthy produce to feed your family this summer. For more information, visit the church website: elmhurstucc.org.
All proceeds benefit church ministries.
