Three students honored as DAR Good Citizens by Fox River Valley Chapter
On Saturday, March 15, the Fox River Valley Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution held their annual student award reception at First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake. Three local high school students were honored as DAR Good Citizen recipients.
The DAR Good Citizen award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities to an outstanding degree.
The Fox River Valley Chapter sponsors three local high schools: Hampshire, Huntley, and Jacobs.
Each school chooses their winner, and each student is also invited to participate in an additional essay scholarship from the chapter.
The 2025 Fox River Valley Class of DAR Good Citizens is Caitlyn Rose Ley, Hampshire High School; Emma Rose Rodriguez, Huntley High School; and Ella Cole Edgerton, Jacobs High School. Each school winner is awarded a certificate, a pin, and a monetary award.
Caitlyn also was awarded an additional monetary scholarship as the DAR Good Citizen Chapter winner for her response to the essay prompt “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It” and the focus question of “Service is an essential attribute of a good citizen. Discuss how service can foster a strong sense of community and strengthen our American Identity?”
