2025 Elgin Short Film Festival now accepting entries
The city of Elgin and the Elgin Short Film Festival is accepting submission for the 17th annual Elgin Short Film Festival, set for Sept. 20.
Filmmakers from around the world are invited to showcase their cinematic talent in this one-of-a-kind festival, which attracts entries from the United States, Canada, Spain, South Korea and beyond.
Filmmakers may submit their short films — 20 minutes or less, including credits — to compete for prizes in this year’s festival. Whether the film is a heartwarming story, a thrilling adventure or a thought-provoking animation, all creative submissions across genres are encouraged as long as they adhere to the official rules.
Films may be submitted even if they have been entered into other festival competitions via filmfreeway.com/ElginShortFilmFestival.
There will be two categories: live action and animation.
Each category will feature five potential finalists, with the top two, as voted on by the selection committee, making the finals.
The next three films in each category will have a chance to compete for a coveted spot in the finals Sept. 4-5. Details at hemmens.org/esff.
The Elgin Short Film Festival welcomes films rated up to the equivalent of an MPAA ‘R’ rating.
The top finalists will be treated to a red-carpet arrival at the Hemmens Cultural Center, where their films will be showcased on screen at the 1,200-seat theater.
The top three films compete for trophies and cash prizes up to $1,000.
Submit your film by Aug. 1, for a reduced $40 fee. All entries submitted by Aug. 22 will be for a $50 fee.
