Geneva water department staff honored for ensuring water safety and purity standards

At the April 7 city council meeting, the Geneva mayor and council members commended Bob Van Gyseghem and Mike Anderson from the city’s water department for their remarkable achievement in consistently maintaining 100% compliance with the stringent requirements of the cross-connection control program.

Their unwavering dedication to upholding the highest standards of water safety stands as a testament to their professionalism and commitment. This recognition is not only well deserved but also reflects the tireless efforts of every member of their team, whose diligent work ensures the safety and purity of the community’s water supply.

Cross Connection Control (Backflow) programs are essential safeguards mandated at both the federal and state levels, designed to protect potable water distribution systems from potential contamination. In normal circumstances, water flows in a single, forward direction; however, under certain circumstance conditions, it can reverse its flow, leading to a scenario known as “backflow.” When backflow occurs, water can inadvertently run backwards through the water system, and this situation poses a significant risk. Such reverse flow has the potential to introduce contaminants such as harmful bacteria, hazardous pesticides and various chemicals into the clean drinking water the community relies on.

The Aqua Backflow team once again congratulates Bob and Mike with the city of Geneva. The team looks forward to having your utility reach its goal of 100% compliance as well!
