Slippery slope on guns

An anti-gun activist judge has ruled that Highland Park victims can sue the gun manufacturer for damages because the gun used by the shooter was manufactured in their plant. This is a slippery slope and a very dangerous one at that. If this activist judge’s ruling is allowed to stand, it will open Pandora’s box.

This ruling will entitle victims in car accidents to sue auto manufacturers. Victims of criminals who use burglary tools will be allowed to sue the tool manufacturer. A person who is the victim of a poisoning can sue the product manufacturer even though the product was not used in the fashion it was meant to be used, very similar to a gun being used in a crime instead of legal applications like hunting or target practice.

This ruling, although emotionally reasonable, is ill-conceived and very dangerous to all people. Manufacturers are not criminals. They do not control usage of their product once purchased.
