‘The Outsiders,’ Alicia Keys bio-tuner ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ slated for upcoming Broadway in Chicago season

“The Outsiders,” last year’s Tony Award-winning musical adapted from S.E. Hinton’s coming-of-age novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s film about Ponyboy Curtis, best pal Johnny Cade and their greaser outsiders’ battle with wealthy socs, is among the five Broadway shows scheduled to play Chicago as part of Broadway in Chicago’s 2025-2026 season.

The season begins Oct. 21 with Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” at the James M. Nederlander Theatre, 24 W. Randolph St., Chicago.

That’s followed by “Hell’s Kitchen,” the Alicia Keys bio-tuner that includes the singer/songwriter/pianist’s greatest hits and tunes written for the show, which runs Nov. 11-30 at the Nederlander Theatre.

Just in time for the holidays comes a revival of “Elf the Musical” (Dec. 2-14 at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Ida B. Wells Drive, Chicago) adapted from the 2003 film starring Will Ferrell as an orphaned baby raised at the North Pole as an elf who journeys to New York City to find his birth father.

Next up is the first U.S. tour of “Stereophonic,” the 2024 Tony Award-winning, 1976-set play-with-music about an up-and-coming rock band on the cusp of stardom. Written by David Adjmi, it features songs by former Arcade Fire member Will Butler. The show runs from Jan. 27 through Feb. 8, 2026, at the CIBC Theatre, 18 W. Monroe St., Chicago.

“The Outsiders,” which has a book by Adam Rapp and music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance) and Justin Levine, concludes the season. It runs Feb. 10-22, 2026, at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 W. Randolph St., Chicago.
