Time for change on township board

Wheeling Township does a lot of really good work in our community. Unfortunately, the current board did not enact the will of the voters regarding the 708 Referendum approved in 2022. Residents voted yes on the referendum, which would provide more resources for those with needs in the areas of mental health, disabilities or addiction. The board seemed to do everything in their power not to enact the will of the voters.

The Daily Herald covered it extensively. Yes, the Mental Health Board is finally up and running. Yet, the Wheeling Board still has not levied for it. (The yearly ask was to be about $30 for an average-sized home in the township.) Bottom line, the GOP slate for the Wheeling Township Board has run unopposed since 2013. Supervisor Penner has been on the board for 20 years. She and the board, are good people; but, it’s time for a change.

Please vote for Maria Zeller Brauer for Wheeling Township Supervisor. I urge you to research and support all four members of the Progress for Wheeling Township slate — John Geier, Lorri Grainawi, Austin Mejdrich and Sheri Williams. They will listen to residents and be transparent. They will tape their meetings to make them available for residents who can’t attend meetings in person.

Financial information will be easier to find. And, of course, they will use our tax dollars wisely. The current Wheeling Township Assessor and Clerk (both GOP) are running unopposed. This race requires candidates to run as partisans, unlike the other local races. Please be sure to vote by April 1st.
