First Presbyterian next stop on the Great Elgin Pipe Organ Tour March 30

The next stop on the Great Elgin Pipe Organ Tour will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at First Presbyterian Church, 240 Standish St. in Elgin.

The instrument featured was built in 1979 by W. Zimmer & Sons of Charlotte, N.C., and is one of only three remaining tracker organs in Elgin.

The program will include works by Bach, Pachelbel, and Mendelssohn performed by Jeff Neufeld, music director and organist of First Congregational and the tour organizer. It also will include performances by First Presbyterian’s chancel choir conducted by Deb Walters, director of music at First Presbyterian; and piano-organ duets with Joshua Myatzaw, accompanist at First Presbyterian.

Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be taken to support First Presbyterian’s immigrant ministry fund. Upcoming concerts will feature the pipe organs at Holy Trinity Lutheran on April 27 and the Church of the Brethren General Office later in May which are both free admission.

The Great Elgin Pipe Organ Tour’s finale concert will be at First Congregational at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6. It will feature musicians from the Elgin Symphony and Neufeld performing the famous Francis Poulenc Concerto for Organ, Strings, and Timpani, and the North American premiere of the Hans-André Stamm Concerto for Organ and Orchestra version for chamber orchestra.

Tickets for the finale concert are $20 online or at the door, and arts patrons are invited to make tax-deductible contributions to help defray the costs of the finale concert or to sponsor an individual string player. Visit fcc-elgin.org/organ-tour/ for tickets or to donate.
