Candidates respectful, well-informed

Having lived in Libertyville since 1968, I am recommending three candidates in the April 1 election: for village president (Matthew Hickey) and for village trustee (Kara Macdonald and Patrick Scheibler). All three longtime Libertyville residents will actively seek engagement with, listen to and collaborate with citizens in Libertyville. Our concerns will be treated with respect and appreciation, because these three candidates are all very kind, friendly, thoughtful, smart, responsive individuals.

Matt Hickey brings experience as an urban planner — helping to build housing, retail and community spaces that strengthen local economies. As a village trustee he has been chair of the Finance Committee, leading with greater transparency, responsible spending and smart investments. He has ensured fair bidding, strengthened local business partnerships and been very visible in the community.

Patrick Scheibler, born and raised in Libertyville and a pharmaceutical sales director, is very well-informed about Libertyville village board proceedings. He brings an interest in environmental issues, having organized a volunteer group to rid Libertyville public spaces of buckthorn, a very invasive species, which crowds out our native trees and plants. He is interested in maintaining the unique character of the neighborhoods through thoughtful management of growth and diverse housing options.

Kara Macdonald, also a Libertyville High School graduate, brings education and a long career as human resources leader for large corporations. As president of the Lake County Habitat for Humanity, she has spotted the need for someone with her work style and experience to be on the village board. She has become very familiar regarding issues facing Libertyville by attending countless board meetings.

All three — Hickey, Scheibler and Macdonald — are interested in providing a more collaborative approach to village government. They will respectfully listen to concerns of the residents, do the necessary research and work out solutions to benefit the entire village.
