President is making country less safe
Our country is in more danger since Donald Trump began his second term.
Trump gave a blank pardon to all the Jan. 6 rioters, including ones who committed serious crimes. Most are ready to do Trump’s bidding again.
Trump’s new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, in his confirmation hearings, displayed a shocking lack of knowledge about world affairs. He has a history of excessive drinking and abusing women and no experience running a large organization.
Eighteen inspector generals were fired, including at the departments of Defense, Intelligence, Health and Human Services, Transportation and State. This leaves these departments with no accountability for fraud, corruption and waste.
Trump has already begun undoing his predecessor’s climate change initiatives. If we don’t address climate change, extreme weather events such as fires, hurricanes and floods will increase. Firefighters who have been battling the California wildfires returned home to find emails telling them to resign. He also plans to deregulate clean air and water measures.
The day after the crash of a passenger flight in the Potomac River, killing all on board, federal air traffic controllers and FAA staff got emails telling them to resign: they should move from “lower productivity jobs in the public sector” to “higher productivity jobs in the private sector.” Over the following days, there were three more accidents involving airplanes, causing more deaths and injuries.
Trump has already alienated some of our closest allies by threatening heavy tariffs if they don’t do what he wants. Without support from our allies, we are weaker. American consumers will bear the cost of tariffs on imported goods — so much for lowering the price of groceries.
