Highway commissioner doing a great job

I am writing as a resident of a Milton Township unincorporated area. We moved here 16 years ago having previously lived in incorporated villages or cities that maintained our roads. We were unfamiliar with what to expect with regards to road maintenance living in an unincorporated area.

To our surprise, maintenance and snow removal on the roads in our subdivision is far superior to our three former towns in which we lived. The Milton Township Highway Department crews and highway Commissioner Gary Muehlfelt are frequently observed inspecting our roads and easements for needed snow removal and storm-related debris removal. When it comes to anticipated snowfall, we observe the township highway department crews pre-salting and coating with the beet juice mixture prior to ice and snow buildup. Our neighbors frequently remark that snow removal on our subdivision streets is superior to the other roads we must travel once we leave our township-maintained roads.

Last summer all of the roads in our subdivision along with other unincorporated roads in our area were ground down and replaced with new asphalt. The communication with the residents during that period was excellent letting us know what to expect each day so to minimize delays in exiting our driveways. The new roads look great and the drainage is much improved.

We appreciate the very informative pamphlet that the Highway Commissioner mails to unincorporated homes. The annual recycling event hosted by the Highway Department is also a big help.

Highway Commissioner Gary Muehlfelt is a lifelong resident in unincorporated Milton Township and clearly takes great pride in serving the needs of the residents.

His many dedicated years of public service and passion for serving our residents, along with support of other communities needing assistance during past bad weather events, clearly demonstrates why he should be re-elected on April 1.
