Silence not acceptable
Thank you, Gov. Pritzker for your courage and strength last month in forcefully calling out the hateful venom spewed daily by the current occupant of the White House. Too many of our “leaders” are silent. Some are fearful of losing their next election. Others see the current situation as a reality show that will run its course. Whatever their reason, they could not be more wrong. Silence and timidity have deadly consequences, as it did in Charlottesville in August 2017 and Washington in D.C. in January 2021. The lies, intolerance and hate emanating from the Oval Office may signal to some that this behavior and these actions are acceptable. They are not. It’s time for anyone who believes in compassion, justice and tolerance to speak out clearly and loudly for as long as it takes to bring this national nightmare to an end.
