Kim Edwards: 2025 candidate for Geneva City Council Ward 5

Bio

Office sought: Geneva City Council Ward 5

City: Geneva

Age: 46

Occupation: Teacher

Previous offices held: None

What is the most serious issue your community will face in the coming years and how should the city council or village board respond to it?

Clear and transparent financial planning, planning for the direction that Geneva should take in the future, and safety throughout the city and the city council needs to take the lead on these issues.

How would you describe the state of your community's finances? What should be the top priorities for spending during the next few years? Are there areas of spending that need to be curtailed?

I would refer to my previous answer for this as well. There needs to be clear and transparent communication regarding the finances of the City of Geneva and there needs to be a thoughtful review of the plan for the new police department.

What do you see as the most important infrastructure project the community must address? Why and how should it be paid for? Conversely, during these uncertain economic times, what project(s) can be put on the back burner?

Currently, I would say that the most important need in the City of Geneva is for a police department, but as I had mentioned in my previous answer, there needs to be a careful and thoughtful review completed prior to just throwing money at a project.

Describe your experience working in a group setting to determine policy. What is your style in such a setting to reach an agreement and manage local government? Explain how you think that will be effective in producing effective actions and decisions with your village board or city council.

I am a team player who is willing to look outside of my own opinions and truly hear the voices of others, not just what I want to hear.

What makes you the best candidate for the job?

I am a far better listener and would truly serve as a representative for the residents of my ward rather than serve my own agenda.

What’s one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?

I think communication from the city council should be improved to make the information that people are seeking more easily accessible.
