Endorsements: Krummick, Rooney and Herrmann for Libertyville Village Board
Libertyville voters have difficult choices to make among five solid, qualified candidates vying for three 4-year seats on the village board.
Among them are incumbent Trustees Matt Krummick and Katherine “Casey” Rooney, having served a 4-year term and a 2-year term, respectively, and newcomers Andrew Herrmann, Kara Macdonald and Patrick Scheibler.
Libertyville is in the enviable position of being financially solvent, with a healthy property tax base and thriving business community and downtown economy. But there are challenges ahead with the municipal share of state income tax revenues in flux, which several candidates acknowledge. How to balance growth and development while preserving the town’s unique character is another concern the candidates shared.
Krummick, 51, is a commercial real estate developer who has been a village trustee since 2021. He previously served six years on the Libertyville Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. He has 10 years of municipal experience in the village and experience working with municipal leaders across the Chicago area.
Rooney, 58, who works in financial client services, has been a village trustee since 2023 and previously served one 4-year term on the Libertyville-Vernon Hills High School District 128 board. She has served on various village commissions and committees, including the Libertyville Comprehensive Plan committee working collaboratively with residents, businesses and local institutions.
Herrmann, 54, is a real estate broker and current economic commissioner for Libertyville. He wants the village to pursue thoughtful growth that enhances the community without compromising its charm. That means listening to residents and local businesses to understand their needs and involves smart zoning and planning, he said in his candidate questionnaire.
Macdonald, 56, is a human resources consultant and board president of Habitat for Humanity Lake County. She wants to improve pedestrian safety in town.
Scheibler, 57, is a pharmaceutical sales director with no prior experience in public service or elected office. He seeks to improve public safety.
All five candidates have constructive ideas for improving the community and should find opportunities to be involved in some capacity. Krummick, Rooney and Herrmann stand out because of their prior service to the village and the professional expertise they bring to the job. They are endorsed.
