Fox Valley Music Consortium features classical, jazz, and brass band concerts in March

The Fox Valley Music Consortium, an Aurora-based nonprofit group of performing musicians, invites the community to three concerts this month. Tickets vary by event.

On Sunday, March 16, the Fox Valley Orchestra will perform a classical concert at 2 p.m. at Marmion Abbey church, 850 Butterfield Road in Aurora.

Steven Squires will conduct this concert featuring Mark Ponzo on trumpet and Lisa Bradley on English horn. The program includes Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, Copland’s “Quiet City,” Hovhaness’ “Prayer of St. Gregory,” Shostakovich’s “Chamber Symphony,” Holst's “Brook Green Suite,” and Mozart’s “Divertimento in D, K. 136.”

Advance admission is $20 or $18 for seniors and students online until noon Saturday, March 15. At the door, it is $25, $22 for seniors and students, or $18 for children under age 9. Order tickets at www.foxvalleyorchestra.org.

On Sunday, March 23, the Fox Valley Jazz Big Band will be joined by vocalist Julie Ann Caselli at 4 p.m. in the Waubonsee Community College auditorium at the Sugar Grove campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive.

Featured will be classics from the 1930s through modern pieces. Jeff Ford will direct. Tickets online to Saturday, March 22, are $18.50 or $15 for seniors. Order tickets at fvjazzbigband.org.

On Sunday, March 30, the Fox Valley Brass Band and Illinois Brass Band will perform at 3 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May St. in Aurora. Victor Anderson will direct the Fox Valley band.

Scheduled numbers are Tom Davoren’s “Proclamation”; James Curnow’s “Esprit” and a “Hymn for Diana,” a memorial to late Princess Diana; and Percy Aldridge Grainger’s “Lincoln Posy,” a musical portrait of six folk tunes sung by folk singers during his 1905-1906 trip to Lincolnshire, England. Steven Squires will direct.

The concert will conclude with the bands combining to play James Curnow’s “Fanfare and Flourishes” and “Amazing Grace” by William Himes. Victor Anderson will conduct.

Tickets are $15 or $12 for students and seniors, plus a $1 ticket fee. Order tickets at www.foxvalleybrassband.org.

The Fox Valley Music Consortium is an Aurora-based nonprofit cultural organization which provides fine musical performances for people of all ages. Performers are professional and high level amateur musicians performing groups, including several youth-education programs.

Member groups are Fox Valley Brass Band, Fox Valley Orchestra and Chorus, Fox Valley Jazz Big Band, Fox Chamber Singers, Fox Valley El Sistema, Fox Valley Youth Orchestra, Fox Valley Youth Chorus and Fox Valley Youth Jazz Big Band.
