Suburban firefighter to be honored by American Red Cross for hurricane rescue efforts
A suburban firefighter who responded to the devastating flooding in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene last year is being lauded by the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago.
Lt. Ken S. Schulman of the Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Protection District led a water rescue team from the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System for several weeks in the storm-ravaged state, according to a Red Cross news release. They rescued 30 people and helped many others.
Schulman, of Mundelein, is among 12 Chicago-area residents who will be honored April 30 at the annual Red Cross Heroes Breakfast.
