PADS of Elgin to host annual Home Run 5K run/walk
Event aims to raise funds and awareness for local shelter and support services
PADS of Elgin, a local nonprofit organization providing year-round shelter and comprehensive services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, will host its annual Home Run 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 26.
The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. just north of the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.
The 5K fundraiser supports PADS of Elgin’s mission to respectfully and compassionately empower persons and families in need of housing to become self-sustaining by providing shelter, needed services, and professional guidance.
“This community event is vital to our organization’s ability to provide continuous shelter and support services to our neighbors in need,” said Jen Keller, race director. “Every participant directly contributes to maintaining our 24/7 shelter operations and comprehensive case management programs.”
PADS of Elgin operates 365 days and nights per year, providing a safe place to sleep, access to showers, laundry facilities, clothing, hygiene products, and three daily meals. Beyond immediate shelter needs, the organization offers essential case management services including money management, financial literacy, life skills counseling, housing referrals, mental health assessments, substance abuse support, advocacy, employment and educational opportunities.
Participants who register by April 5 will receive a finisher medal and sports tech shirt. Early registration discounts are available with promo code RACETIME5, offering $5 off registration fees for those who sign up before March 21.
