Gurnee man killed in crash Saturday identified

Lake County authorities on Monday identified the 26-year-old man who died early Saturday after a single-vehicle crash near Gurnee.

Kyle Debevec of Gurnee died from injuries consistent with blunt force injuries suffered in the crash, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Debevec was behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz sedan at about 2:05 a.m. Saturday when it went off the roadway along eastbound Stearns School Road and struck a tree near Mill Creek Drive, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The driver’s side of the vehicle sustained a significant amount of damage and Debevec had to be extricated by first responders, authorities said. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he succumbed to his injuries hours later in the intensive care unit, the coroner’s office said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office’s Technical Crash Investigations Team.
