TLC and American Farmland Trust to host Learning Circles on March 11 and April 3

Women who own or manage farmland or who have an interest in farming are invited to Learning Circles hosted by The Land Conservancy of McHenry County and American Farmland Trust.

Both events are free, but registration is required. Participants can register online at ConserveMC.org or email chodge@conservemc.org.

The first Learning Circle will cover the topic of farmland succession planning. It will be held Tuesday, March 11, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Main Stay Therapeutic Farm, 6919 Keystone Road in Richmond.

The guest speaker will be Angie Doucette who manages American Farmland Trust’s farmland protection efforts in the Midwest, providing research, resources, and project support to build local partners’ capacity in efforts to accelerate the pace of farmland protection and the adoption of soil health practices on protected lands.

The next Learning Circle will cover the topic of soil health. It will be held Thursday, April 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Main Stay Therapeutic Farm, 6919 Keystone Road in Richmond.

The guest speaker will be Brenna Ness, the Working Lands Ecologist for McHenry County Conservation District. She manages the district’s farming and hunting programs. The Farm Program leases over 5,000 acres of farmland to local producers who help create a balance between keeping the district’s farmland productive and enhancing its ecological health and function.

Lunch and an optional farm tour will be provided after the discussions on both dates.

The Land Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the health and preservation of natural and agricultural land in McHenry County.
