Elgin area clergy gather for ‘Unity on Division’ event

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin started in 1903 when 41 people met in Elgin’s Unity Hall.

One hundred and twenty-two years later, on Feb. 15, 2025, churches from all clergy in the area — Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Episcopal, Congregation Kneseth Israel, and Kingdom Advancement Center and others — met in the same sanctuary in a new 2025 “Unity on Division” event.

In that ceremony, 132 people gathered to witness the ordination of Pastor Andrea Delaney and her installation as pastor of Holy Trinity.

This meeting of clergy from Chicago-area churches is a bright spot in local news on religion. The ceremony was a startling expression of unity among Elgin-area churches from all backgrounds.
